   1. From hunger and thirst (by providing access to fresh water and a balanced diet to maintain full health)

 To assist us with this ongoing growth, we are looking to recruit Animal Attendants based at these sites.
As construction is well underway, we are looking to commence staff as soon as possible.
Both Australian residents and appropriate visa holders will be considered for the position.
This role will be completing animal hus- bandry duties – working directly with the stock.
Though experience in a similar field is preferred, it is not essential as an extensive training program will be provided.
Applicants can expect a base wage of $60-65,000 per annum by the end of pro- bation, which includes regular overtime and rostered weekend work. Salary will be negotiated depending on skills and expe- rience in accordance with our Collective Agreement.

However, the Five Do- mains explore the mental state of an animal in more detail and acknowledge that for every physical as- pect that is affected, there may be an accompanying emotion or subjective ex- perience that may also af- fect welfare.
To enable this, those re- sponsible for the care of animals need to provide them with environments that not only allow but encourage animals to ex- press behaviours that are rewarding.

This is useful in terms of reinforcing the message that emotional needs are as important as physical needs for animals.
This shift in under- standing is the basis for the Five Domains model incorporating positive welfare states.

  Term ‘pork-barreling’ started as a joke
EVER wondered where the term ‘pork- barrelling’ came from?
Mr Richards said an American author named Edward Everett Hale wrote a short story pub- lished in 1863, in which he portrayed a “back- wards politician at a little polling station with a big barrel of salted pork.”
“But it was a joke, it was just a funny short story,” Mr Richards said.
Well, according to broadcaster and word- smith Kel Richards, ap- parently the term ‘pork- barrelling’ started as a joke, though it was very quickly taken up as a way to describe what politicians could do with taxpayers’ money.
He said the man gave a piece of salted pork to anyone who promised him their vote.
“Ten years later after the American Civil War, it was taken seriously and newspapers started using it as a serious met- aphor for government spending that was in- tended to buy the votes, and it’s been used that way since 1873.”
