THE APRIL Commer- cialisation Advisory Panel recently consid- ered two more diverse ideas for future appli- cation in the pork in- dustry.
Put in a proposal!

improve feed efficiency in finisher pigs.
While the laboratory is ready to go, unfortu- nately COVID-19 and the impact of African swine fever on the Chinese pork industry has meant that promotional activities and logistics have mark- edly slowed the adoption of AusScan Online.
The first proposal – originally developed for use in sheep – is based on the use of a vaccine.
The proposal involves a diverse team from sev- eral institutions to bring
The second proposal, a non-antibiotic feed ad- ditive, was purported to enhance carcass lean and
Products capable of significantly improving these traits could fill the gap left by the withdrawal of ractopamine in most of the Australasian market.

There are currently many phytogenic com- pounds available, and differentiation in the market is achieved by offering different com- pounds or combinations of compounds targeted at specific genotypes and heavier carcasses.
Closer to home, Aus- tralian laboratories have received the Ingot Check quality assurance reports for energy and lysine cov- ering the first and second quarters of 2021.

Manipulation of car- cass weight and carcass composition are still of paramount importance to the Australasian pork in- dustry.
The report is essentially a ring test in which the AusScan Online calibra- tions are determined from sachets containing grains of accredited reference analysis.
Both ideas were given thorough consideration, feedback and guidance from the panel on the next steps.
The sachets are scanned on a monthly basis and provide awareness of how the laboratory’s near in- frared machine is per- forming with respect to the cereal energy and ly- sine calibrations.

If you have a good pork industry relevant idea, why not put it forward to the APRIL Commerciali- sation Advisory Panel?
To date, feedback has been excellent as the re- ports enable the laborato- ries to make minor adjust- ments if required.
