SunPork group joins PIX AMC
CHAIR of the organ- ising committee of the Australasian Milling Conference David Bray is very excited to announce the joining of the SunPork group of companies to the A MC, scheduled for May 2022.
members of the pork industry with a one- stop shop conference,” Dr van Barneveld said.
“This is a great step forward in linking the Australia feed industry with its key end-users in the livestock in- dustry,” Mr Bray said.
“The synergies with the Poultry Informa- tion Exchange will also be important given the pork and poultry indus- tries face similar op- erational challenges.”
The SunPork group is the largest pork pro- ducer in Australia, which includes Sun- Pork Farms farming about 52,000 sows, PIC Australia, Swicker’s Kingaroy Bacon Fac- tory and SunPork Fresh Foods.
As a direct result of SunPork and AMC working together, sup- pliers and stakeholders in the sector will for the first time have the op- portunity to engage and support the pig, poultry and milling industries at the one event in Aus- tralia.
The group employs more than 1800 staff across 52 locations in four states and two countries.
This collaboration will enable broader industry participants beyond SunPork to at- tend the conference and take advantage of the array of speakers and exhibitors that will be in attendance.
SunPork group chief executive officer and managing director Dr Robert van Barneveld said that SunPork was excited to be joining with AMC.
The conference team looks forward to seeing you at PIX AMC and looks forward to your ongoing support as we make arrangements for an extended program.
“This will definitely start the necessary en- gagement in the many segments of the pork production supply chain, avoids duplica- tion of resources de- livering a world-class event and provides SunPork and other
More information will be released in due course as the planning for PIX AMC 2022 continues.
Dr van Barneveld said the conference will provide a platform to tackle key issues facing the intensive industries.

on a nationally competi- tive basis and available to applicants from any organisation.
An independent, member-based research entity, APRIL seeks to enhance the Australa- sian pork industry by in- vesting in research and development, education and training, and com- mercialisation activities focussed on priorities and deliverables that ensure the sustainability of Aus- tralasian pork production, and to generate optimal returns for its stake- holders.

riers to progress, and be able to improve or apply new theoretical concepts, methodologies or tools that will benefit industry.
All APRIL funding schemes are assessed, evaluated and recom- mended for funding by the research and develop- ment advisory committee, which has the collective expertise and experience to effectively assess ap- plications against all se- lection criteria for that scheme.
Industry priority pro- jects
The assessment of ap- plications will be based strongly on these criteria, and revenue-generating potential, if appropriate, will also be considered.
Funding rules for re- search schemes funded by APRIL stipulate that no overhead – indirect cost recovery – can be charged.
APRIL’s industry pri- ority projects address a number of key areas that will help to shape the fu- ture industry landscape.
Potential applicants should be acquainted with APRIL’s member- ship base and the pro- spective advantages in- teractions with members may bring to a proposal.
Collaborative ap- proaches by researchers and industry personnel are strongly encouraged, as are applications from individuals and organi- sations not necessarily having a direct affiliation with the pork industry but think a difference can be made.
For further informa- tion or questions on the industry priority project and innovation project schemes, contact either commercialisation and research impact manager Dr Charles Rikard-Bell at c.rikardbell@april.org. au or on 0439 513 723, or chief scientist and chief executive officer Dr John Pluske at j.pluske@april. org.au or on 0410 436871.
Specifically, APRIL is looking for applications related to the following priorities only:
• Novel approaches to allow increased use of food wastes in pig diets
As with previous APRIL funding rounds, a minimum level of co- investment of 25 percent cash – of the total project cost – is required for in- dustry priority projects.
Innovation projects are negotiable to around 12 to 18 months in duration, have a maximum budget of $75,000 and require a minimum external cash co-investment of 25 per- cent of the total cash cost of the project.
• Improved water quality for use/re-use on- farm and in processing facilities
Innovation projects
• Development of real time monitoring and sur- veillance technologies under commercial condi- tions
However, the priorities lend themselves to poten- tially significantly higher levels of external invest- ment and researchers interested in applying should seek these avenues wherever possible.
APRIL’s innovation projects are designed specifically to support ‘out of the box’ ideas for smart new approaches to tackle the current and emerging challenges of the Australasian pork in- dustry.
