GORMAN-RUPP, the world leader in solids handling self-priming centrifugal pumps, has released the most advanced pump for handling solids-laden liquids according to Australian distributor Hydro Innovations.
Called the Eradica- tor Solids Management System, the technology is ideal for the chal- lenges facing wastewa-
ter pumps, including the handling of stringy sol- ids such as rags, feathers and twine, which find their way into meat pro- cessing plant wastewa- ter systems.
The new system comes as an option on the Gor- man-Rupp range of Su- per T Series pumps and is also available as an upgrade kit on existing Super T Series pumps already in the field.
The Eradicator system features an aggressive self-cleaning wear plate incorporating a number of notches and grooves as well as a patent pend- ing lacerating tooth that helps break up stringy materials, scrape them off the impeller vanes and pass them through the pump – all without impacting performance or interrupting service.
A special cover plate
with the system includes a smaller, patented lightweight inspection cover that can easily be removed to inspect pump internals.
System benefits in- clude improved op- erational efficiency, in- creased uptime, reduced maintenance costs, lower life cycle costs and easier access to the impeller.
Operators will also find the lighter cover plate is easier and safer to work with.
Eradicator-equipped pumps do not require expensive chopper blades that need peri- odic replacement but rely on passing large solids and stringy ma- terials straight through the pump.
The system is avail- able with carbon steel or hardened alloy steel wear plates.
Pumps can handle flows from 5l/ps through to 200l/ps and heads to 45m, and Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pumps are able to be mounted high and dry above the wastewater (up to 7.6m) so operators gain easy access without the need for cranes and other lift- ing devices.
More information on these pumps and the Eradicator system can be obtained from Hydro Innovations at info@hy droinnovations.com.au or by calling 02 9898 1800.

THE National Farm- ers’ Federation recently met with Prime Min- ister Scott Morrison to discuss both what more could be done to as- sist farmers and com- munities managing this drought and a long-term policy to guide the na- tion’s response to future droughts.
Drought Minister David Littleproud and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack also attended the meeting.
NFF president Fiona Simson said, “The Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and Min- ister Littleproud absolute- ly understand the gravity of the current drought sit- uation and we appreciated the opportunity to discuss further measures to assist farmers and communi- ties in the management of what is now one of the worst droughts in living memory.”
“Drought is complex, it is not the same for any one farm business, family or community.
“While one support mechanism will suit someone, for another it might not be the right fit or they may not be eli- gible.
“The NFF acknowledg- es the measures already in place at federal and state levels.
“The additional six measures proposed by the NFF are designed to com- plement these and togeth-
er, address the varying circumstances farmers and agricultural-reliant communities are facing right now.”
As a result of consulta- tion with its members, the NFF has proposed the fol- lowing immediate meas- ures for consideration by government:
1. Support for local council rate relief.
2. Commonwealth Gov- ernment subsidies for the payroll expenses of farm- ing businesses equal to the Newstart Allowance to support local commu- nities.
3. Top-up payments of at least $2000 per child to the Assistance for Iso- lated Children allowance and additional funding for rural schools and addi- tional support for early learning services in se- verely drought-affected communities.
4. A two-year interest- free period for Regional Investment Corporation Drought loans.
5. An increased federal- state focus on the eradica- tion of feral pigs, which are a biosecurity risk and a highly destructive pest, particularly in drought.
6. Exit packages for farming families looking to exit farming after an assessment of their long- term viability.
The NFF recently pro- vided the Government its newly endorsed Na- tional Drought Policy, a proposed Commonwealth framework for a more strategic approach to pre- paring for managing and recovering from drought into the future.
The meeting was the first opportunity to talk through the long-term policy.
“We spoke to the Prime Minister about a new long-term constructive ap- proach to future drought policy that enhances and builds on the current Na- tional Drought Agree- ment,” Ms Simson said.
“It is important to be
clear that NFF’s Na- tional Drought Policy is not about this current drought, but rather a new, more strategic approach to managing droughts into the future.
“We acknowledge the current National Drought Agreement.
“The NFF’s policy pro- vides a more detailed description of the roles, responsibilities, expecta- tions and accountabilities outlined in the Agreement of all stakeholders includ- ing the Commonwealth, states and industry – an approach the Prime Min- ister welcomed.”
The NFF understands the policy will now be discussed at a meeting of state and territory agricul- ture ministers.
“We want all levels of government to support this approach and we will continue to talk to the Federal Government and their state counterparts to encourage the policy’s adoption.”
Ms Simson thanked the Prime Minister for his government’s continued prioritisation of farmers and regional communi- ties as they live through an almost unprecedented drought situation.
“It’s critically impor- tant we focus on assist- ing those impacted by this drought and to act now, as a nation, to ensure we are better prepared for the inevitable droughts of the future.”
