2017 Victorian Pig Fair wrap-up
THE Victorian Pig Fair is specially designed to cater for producers and staff.
This year, more than 400 visitors attended over the two days, which was quite an achieve- ment for the group of volunteers who organise and run the fair.
There were over 40 stallholders, including international sponsors and exhibitors.
We are confident the
fair is a great event and venue at which to meet and greet the industry.
We would like to thank our sponsors, because without their support the Victorian Pig Fair could not happen.
Occasions such as the fair, which allow indus- try representatives, pro- ducers, suppliers, pro- cessors and researchers to be able to get together and network, are gradu- ally diminishing.
Now more than ev- er, events such as the Victorian Pig Fair rep- resent one of the few ways where industry as a whole is able to meet, gather support and share information.
This is a place to strengthen networks.
The Agriculture Min- ister was invited and it is regrettable that this invitation was declined considering the new welfare guidelines re-
cently released.
The Bridget Dunn
Memorial Award was awarded to Ben Hawkes. This award takes the form of a travel schol- arship, covering ac- commodation, airfares and registration to the 2018 Pan Pacific Pork
Expo.
